About Us
FinChi is one of the first recommendations implemented in practice of the 'Finland in the World Economy' report by Director General Anne Brunila's globalization working group. If the project meets the expectations, the concept can be extended to a network of innovation centers to locations considered important.
History & Milestones
  • November 26th, 2003: "Memorandum of Understanding on Science &Technological Cooperation between People's Government of Pudong New Area of Shanghai, the People's Republic of China and The Ministry of Trade and Industry of Finland" was signed.
  • March 15th-17th, 2004: Mr. Timo Kekkonen, Director General of Technology Department of MTI, visited Shanghai Pudong with his delegation and developed the idea of FinChi Innovation Center further.
  • July 1st, 2004: "Letter of Intent on the Finland-China (FinChi) Cooperation between People's Government of Pudong New Area of Shanghai, The People's Republic of China and The Ministry of Trade and Industry of Finland" was signed. The collaboration parties agreed to promote the program of "FinChi Innovation Center" together.
  • March 14th, 2005: Shanghai FinChi Innovation Center Co., Ltd. was officially established in Shanghai.
  • May 10th, 2005: FinChi held Working Opening Ceremony in office located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, which indicated the start of FinChi's operation. Mr. Timo Kekkonen, chairman of the board in FinChi and Mr. Hui Yongzheng, chairman of the advisory board, unveiled the sign.
  • September 12th, 2005: Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen delivered his speech during the inauguration of the Finland-China (FinChi) Innovation Center in Shanghai
  • January 1st, 2009: FinChi became 100% subsidiary of Finpro under the direct management of Mr. Kari Häyrinen.
  • March 23rd, 2014: Finland President Sauli Niinistö met China President Xi Jinping in Netherlands. President Xi has quoted FinChi as one of the highlights about the cooperation between Finland and China.
  • November 24th, 2015: FinChi is proud to announce its 10 years of success in its newly renovated office, over 200 guests from China and Finland attend the event, including Mr. Jari Gustafsson (Permanent secretary, Minister of Employment and Economy); Mr. Jukka Mäkelä (Mayor of Espoo City); Mr. Markus Suomi (CEO, Finpro); Mr. Jan Wahlberg (Consul General, Consulate General of Finalnd in Shanghai), Mr. Gu Jun (Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce), Mr. Li Chunping (Chief of European African Affairs Division of Shanghai Municipal People's Government), and even the original Santa Claus from Rovaniemi in Finland.
  • Ju1y 26th, 2016: as part of the Small and Micro Enterprises Entrepreneuria1 Innovation Base City Demonstration Project, FinChi has app1ied for the qua1ification as an Innovative Incubation Center at Shanghai Pudong Science and Techno10gy Innovation Promotion this summer. And thanks to our great success in he1ping over 100 Finnish companies, especially the SMEs, to start business in China in past 11 years, FinChi was officially 1icensed as the Innovative Incubator at the municipa1 and Pudong N ew District 1evel.
  • January 1 st, 2018:As of inpro - the Finnish trade promotion organization - and Tekes - the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation - was united as Business Finland. FinChi became 100% subsidy of Business Finland.
